The Three Most Interesting Trends in the Modern Headphones Market

The headphones market, as indeed all sub-markets in the technology sector, is a highly dynamic one, with new interesting trends emerging every day. These emerging trends in the headphones market make for a very interesting study indeed; with features that are regarded as cutting-edge 'must-have' features today ending up being considered 'obsolete' the very next day.

One interesting trend we have been observing in the headphones market is the one where people are increasingly showing a willingness to pay a little more in terms of money, in exchange for better performance and quality. This is in sharp contrast to the trend a few years back, where people were typically very keen to pay as little as they could for their headphones. What many came to learn is that while they could always find ultra low-cost headphones, the makers of these ultra-cheap headphones tended to make very major sacrifices in terms of quality in a bid to make these very low prices possible - so that you could get very cheap headphones that produced very low quality sound, or very cheap headphones that tended to break down the very next day; forcing you to go shopping for the same item again a few days down the line (and thereby making it twice as costly!).

The makers of the headphones, having seen the people's willingness to pay a little more for better functionality have in turn initiated another important trend: namely increased functionality in modern headphone sets in exchange for extra money. So we end up with headphones that are not just 'basic headphones' for conveying sound from the sound production devices, but also headphones that come in-built with their own woofers and twitters; at the very top of the range. So we also end up with a trend where the prices of headphones are no longer 'flat' as they used to be, but rather highly differentiated, with some headphones costing amounts in single units of dollars (below ten) - but typically with very huge sacrifices made with regard to quality and durability; but then also with headphones that cost hundreds of dollars at the other end of the rage, and with very much to offer in exchange for the little extra that users have to pay for them.

Yet another important trend we are seeing in the headphones market is one where aesthetic design is being taken very seriously; a far cry from the situation in the earlier days of headphones when the gadgets were only bought for their practical value. With regard to aesthetics, we find ourselves in a situation where users are willing to actually pay a little more for the so-called 'cute' headphones. And this we, if two headphones sets of equal functionality are sold side by side, with the one that is more aesthetically appealing being sold for a slightly higher price than the duller one, it could still end up being 'nabbed faster' than the less appealing headphones set going for less - even in a financially strained market; the moral here being that beauty is increasingly proving to be a widely sought after attribute in headphones.
